I liked Demon From The Dark (the previous book) better, but I have to give Kresley Cole props for keeping me interested. Most authors I've followed fall into a rut after the 4th book or so and it gets repetitive. I've lost interest in many a series that way. Not so for Immortals After Dark.

Regin is not one of my favorite ladies of the Lore. She projects a fun, hip image but I've always found her annoying. Chase is a hard sell, for me anyway, as a leading man, too. He's a drug addicted leader of the humans who've been conducting inhumane experiments on immortals.

I didn't expect to even remotely like this at all. I only read this book because I've been an IAD/Kresley Cole fan since Warlord Wants Forever. Good thing it paid off!

Regin and Chase's love story will never be one of my top or even middle faves, but the substory with the other characters more than makes up for it.

The ragtag group they form to survive the island kept me entertained. I loved reading more of Lothaire. I hate waiting for anything, and the little bits of crumbs we're given in regards to the Accession and everybody else's greater end game are killing me, but I love it.

There is no ridiculous drama or easily avoidable angst to distract from the plot. No clichéd manwhoring male lead. No simpering supposedly-smart heroine who accidentally makes the wrong mistakes and thus leads to bigger troubles. There is only good reading material. Kresley Cole knocks another one right out of the park.

Dreams of a Dark Warrior Immortals After Dark Series Book 9 Kresley Cole 9781439136805 Books Reviews

There are so many good books and so little time. I always intended to read Ms. Cole and just purchased this ebook on sale. I like her writing, but I had a hard time relating to the hero in Dreams of a Dark Warrior. Both as Declan and as Aiden, this hero just did not come off. Aiden is a beserker who falls for a Valkyrie named Regin the Radiant. She is one of Oden's daughters who leaves Valhalla to rescue her sister. She left because of a man who soon deserted her and Regin could not return. She was assisted in finding her sister by Aiden, who takes her away to his family because she is only 12. She hides from him but goes to his camp when she comes of age. He is killed shortly thereafter and she awaits his reincarnation knowing that should he kiss her his memories will return and he will die shortly thereafter.

Regin is captured a put into an immortal prison by Aiden's current reincarnation Declan. Love and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but Declan does not do it for me. He is weak and so was Aiden, for all of his prowess in battle.

I love Regin and all the valkyries and witches. They are kicka** characters that make you smile. There is an inherent risk in starting at the 11th book in the series, but I had no problems following. I am sure starting from the beginning in books that tie the characters together is a much better plan. The writing was good, I loved the heroine, but the hero did nothing for me. I could not understand how he could do anything for Regin either. This whole tortured hero thing has been done to death.
I just finished listening to Dreams of a Dark Warrior (Chase & Regin) and cannot believe all the bad reviews this book has received!!!!!!
I laughed and I cried, and I loved the story.
So many reader’s hearts were hardened towards Declan Chase!
I was surprised to find that I did not feel the same way they did.
I understood his choices, because they were plain to see! And I can honestly say that my heart wrapped around their love story. His remorse was great and real and completely believable. So I really was shocked so many people had such bad reviews over a book that was not in any way as bad as they said. Though this wasn’t my absolute favorite out of all the Immortal Warriors books, it truly is right up there near the top!!! Don’t listen to all the naysayers!!! Make up your own mind and read/hear this grand tale of the forgiveness and love and the many sides of loyalty that this couple’s redeemed relationship goes through. Overcomers of the highest order.
I loved their story. Thanks Kres.
It took a long time to come up with a review for this book, there were a lot of things I liked about it, but overall, I was disappointed in Regin's story. (Spoilers included) I was looking forward to her story, I love that Regin was always so forthright, impatient, impetuous, and irreverent; and Kresley Cole did a good job of getting to the end with the characters in a believable way. I enjoyed her meeting with Aidan, and his incarnates, and I got why none of the previous incarnations were just right for Regin. You could see why she chose Declan, how he got the way he was; everything was on point and rang true, but I just had a couple of major stumbling points...
First, it sure was a bummer. Sure, a lot of the stories in the series are threaded with darkness...how can immortal (or at least extremely long-lived) beings get through life without having experienced some very bad times, but this was the darkest book thus far. Not just the physical torture, but the tremendous pain experienced by Declan when he finally realized what he had been a part of for many years. It was extremely uncomfortable to read in parts.
Second, while I can see how they got together at the end, and I can be happy that Regin is happy; I can't bring myself to agree that she should be with Declan. I'm not saying Declan should be miserable his whole life, and basically he was punished already for what he did. I just know I could never be with him after he tortured not just her, but people she cares about, it's too much. Understand it? Yes, you could definitely see how he got there, through pain, suffering, brain-washing, and drugs. But forgive and even love? Nope, can't do it. It's like that guy who beats up a girl ONE time, or takes advantage of a drunk girl ONE time. Yes, he's sorry, yes maybe you can find a way to understand how or why he did it, but in my book, that's where it ends. You don't take him back ever...you might understand, you might feel sorry for him, and you might even forgive him, but you don't go back to him.
