There are very few books which I read straight through, eschewing meals, family, sleep....This is one. Maybe THE ONE.

Best.Book.Ever.

From the beginning, Gough draws the reader in and won't let go. The story is so interesting, so creative, so compelling. The enchants are well-thought out, well-developed, and extremely interesting. I love to think of a world co-existing with ours, here and now. Gough has intrigued me and made me just LONG for the movie to come (as well as a sequel, since we can't have read enough from Will Tuttle, can we?).

From a past-paced plot line to enough twists to keep us guessing, I hid out until I finished the book. Then, I started it again.

At first, I will admit that I didn't want to read this book; I could already detect several Harry Potter-like themes and such. But I knew that I had to at least give this book a chance.

And I'm glad that I did.

The book takes place in New York, with a boy named Will. He hates his life because he's been allergic to everything since birth and he must live in a germ-free environment. He eventually takes charge of his own life and escapes to a hidden world full of enchants.

This book should be a different treat for those who love fantasy mixed with science fiction, mythology, and Grimm's fairy tales
I really liked this story about teen boy Will suffering with all kind of allergies. And that's the reason he is kept in sterile bubble where he is forced to live a boring life. One day he decides to leave and go to explore NY. During his trip he sees hallucinations of strange creatures - half human, half animal. Later he finds out that these are not hallucinations and the creatures are real and there is a whole society of them. He also finds the source of all his allergies. He is kept in this new society and he finally starts to enjoy his life.

The story contains well developed characters that are not hard to follow. It has also interesting twist. Caught me from the very beginning and kept me reading on and on. I must say this book is worth the time and money.
I enjoyed this book, but I was really bothered by inaccuracies. Am I truly the only one that was irritated by the fact that the author doesn't know the difference between the thorax and the abdomen. He was consistently wrong, but the stingers of bees, wasps, etc. extend from the abdomen, not the thorax. I understand that the word thorax seems cooler, but it was distracting that the author kept describing a characters physical appearance incorrectly. While I think this would be a good fantasy novel to recommend to my nephews and godchildren, I hesitate to recommend something with such a fundamental mistake.

On the other hand, I enjoyed the novel because it had few typos, which seem to plague free downloads, it was well-written, the main character was well-developed, and the premise of the novel was intriguing. The novel was complex enough to entertain both young adult and adult readers. The novel started a bit slow, but quickly picked up as the main premis was developed. I look forward to more from this author, but hopefully, his next effort will include fewer inaccuracies.
If you like Fantasy and Fantastical beings, you may enjoy this book. I found myself reading it through to the end and hoping for another book...alas, as yet there is only this one. Although this is a stand-alone read, I'd love to know how the young Hero continues his adventures.

This is a clean read for a younger reader. No strong language or sexual situations. I would read more from this Author.
Cloak plays into every child's fantasy of a secret world only he and his animals (plush or real) may inhabit. It's quite delicious in that respect, and I'd happily place it right up there in the YA fantasy genre along with the great Michael Chabon's Summerland (which is about baseball and much more) or Roald Dahl's BFG. It can be frightening, as can those others, but I'm not sure we give kids enough credit for ingenuity. Sometimes it hurts to stretch one's intellect, but without a little discomfort, a kid's not going to grow himself emotionally. Depending on the age and sensitivity level of your reader, you may want to stretch the rules about keeping the lights on after bedtime; it'll be worth it. The only quibble I had with Cloak was the seeming indifference and inaccessibility of the parents; as a parent myself I was a little insulted.
It is a good concept for a story and it starts out interesting but then starts to drag and for me it becomes a boring read. It got to where I was skipping pages and then finally just quit reading because it seemed to be going nowhere, hopefully it was just a dragged out middle to this one and there is a closing end but for me I couldn't waste more time trying to find the good parts while skipping the boring parts.
