I truly enjoyed reading this novel. The author kept up the suspense, and her writing style created a vivid picture of the setting and people she imagine. The characters were realistic with their own sets of flaws and strengths. I found the number of typos distracting, however, and on several occasions I believe the author mixed up names of her characters (Such as calling a woman "Evelyn" on one page, and then calling her another name a few pages later) and saying the same thing twice in one paragraph. If it hadn't been for lapses such as that, I may have given the novel a 5 star rating.Tags : Jane Was Here [Sarah Kernochan] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <DIV>A thriller that explores reincarnation, Jane Was Here follows a mysterious young woman, who calls herself Jane,Sarah Kernochan,Jane Was Here,Grey Swan Press,0980037727,Horror,Detective and mystery stories,Suspense fiction,Literature & Fiction Genre Fiction,Fantasy - Paranormal,Fiction,Fiction - Fantasy,Fiction General,Fiction Horror,Fiction Thrillers Suspense,Fiction : Fantasy - Paranormal,Fiction : Literary,Literary,MysterySuspense,Thrillers - Suspense

The allure of a novel with a cinematic presence attached to it should come as no surprise since the author has dabbled in film for several decades. And it stands to reason that anyone who reaches the prestigious goal of achieving an Oscar, as the author has, would craft a story of such beauty and romantic reverence to such a time gone by.
It's obvious that the author has a firm hold on the period of time that the reincarnation of Jane was born from. The novel is rich in dialogue from that era; and one of the more interesting aspects of the novel is that it touches on a period of time when letter writing was the supreme form of communication- especially between two unrequited lovers.
The main character, Jane, is hauntingly but beautifully intriguing and she will move you and entice you to follow her all the way through the avenues and hills of her town, and through the pages of this novel, to the amazing and incredible twist of an ending.
The next time you feel compelled to wander through an antique shop or you feel forces pulling you to read letters of old from the long gone dead- consider the possibility that your fascination and eerie connection to these aged objects is more than a passing interest. Jane experienced a type of deja vu that forced her to confront her past- and to ultimately gain justice that had alluded her for more than 150 years.
What an interesting book this was, mystery, murder, a little mayhem and reincarnation to! Not too long but just long enough to hold on and read until you had to stop to do other things. Like cook or clean or feed the cats. Sarah Kernochan has written a story that made me think about reincarnation in a different way, from the point of view of a young confused girl suffering from memory loss after awakening one day from autism while in an institution where she was laced by her parents. While the story moved back and forth thru time I never got lost in the time changes as I read along. While I could say more I think that doing so always spoils the fun of reading it yourself. If you do get confused read on! As the story unfolds everything becomes clear in the end.
I gave this story 5 stars because I found both the story and it's subject thought-provoking. I do recommend this book it's a great read. Enjoy! 😊
I’ve never been a big fan of reincarnation stories. I realize now that it’s probably because I’d never read one as deftly written as Jane Was Here, by Sarah Kernochan. Most reincarnation stories left me thinking, “Yeah, right.” Jane Was Here, on the other hand, made me wonder “Could that really happen?”
What stood out for me most was how real, how human, the characters are. Their flaws (some are much more flawed than others) are there for us to see, which makes it much easier for the reader identify with these people. The overarching story follows Jane, who is trying to find out who she is by digging (literally and figuratively) into a very distant past that she’s convinced included her. But it soon becomes obvious that each of the characters in the book is trying to discover and realize themselves, each in his or her own way connecting with estranged family members, by dabbling in religion, going from bed to bed — or diving into a bottle of booze.
I would highly recommend Jane Was Here to anyone, but especially to those who, like me, are not fans of the genre. Jane Was Here will change that.
At first, I found this book confusing. The writing was odd. The first few chapters followed a lot of characters. I stuck with the book, and by 25% in, I was happy I did. Everything sorted itself out, and I was enjoying it.
Half way through the book, Part 2 begins. Again, I was not sure I liked it. The storytelling was one sided via letters written in "old" English. I stuck with it and began to enjoy it again.
The third part of the book was interesting. There was more action, more intrigue. But when it came to the climax of the book, I was disappointed. Perhaps it was because I had figured out what was going on, and I wasn't surprised. Perhaps it was because the reason for everything was simplistic. The last 10% of the book was ok, but not what I was expecting.
Overall, the author has great word choices. She has a creative topic and theme, but the resolution of the theme is not really a "got you" or exciting conclusion. I am not really sure how I feel about the ending. My feelings about the ending lead me to the opinion that this is a decent book, but not great.
